3 Best Window Cleaning Tips
You may assume that washing your windows is a simple, mundane chore. But not really. In fact, this job takes a lot of preparation and attention to detail, not to mention elbow grease. It’s also fairly dangerous, especially when there are multiple stories involved. Read these window cleaning tips so you can get the job done safely and efficiently.
1. Use
Homemade Solutions
It
can be tempting to buy all those fancy expensive cleaners at the store. But
truth is, you really only need a solution of one part
white vinegar to two parts water. This is just enough to get
you a beautiful shine with no streaks. Add the mixture to a spray bottle and
voila.
2.
Cleaning the Interiors
- Fill
a bucket with water.
- Add some
liquid dish soap.
- In
case of spills, place a towel underneath the window.
- Work
from top to bottom, using a microfiber cloth or sponge on the window.
Don’t forget to wipe the frame too.
- Spray
with the homemade solution.
- Using
a Z-shaped motion, clean the window with a lint-free towel.
- If streaks
are still there, repeat the process.
3. Cleaning
the Exteriors
It’s
best to tackle this chore on a cool, cloudy day so the
sun doesn’t dry the solution too quickly and leave streaks.
- Take
screens off window.
- Using
a garden hose, rinse the windows, fill a bucket with water, and add liquid
dish soap.
- Clean
the surface with a microfiber cloth or, for higher windows, use a sponge
mop.
- Rinse
with the hose.
- Using
a rubber-bladed squeegee. Dry the window. Work from top to bottom.
- For
stubborn stains, saturate them with vinegar and water and let the mixture stand
for a few minutes.
- Dry.
- Rinse
the screens with water, spray with the solution, then rinse.
- Let
dry thoroughly; replace the screens.
You may not look forward to cleaning your windows inside and
out, but this is one home chore that shouldn’t be neglected.
